After Celesty Rahman, now accused Tanvir Bhuiyan confessed to his crime in a case filed over the abduction of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar for murder.
On Tuesday Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain recorded the confessional statement of the accused Tanvir under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc).
Assistant Commissioner, Mahfujur Rahman of Detective Branch (DB) of police, also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, produced him with a prayer to record confessional statement in the case. Later the court sent her to jail.
Accused Tanvir in his confessional statement said the mastermind of the abduction and killing of MP Anar was US citizen Akhtaruzzaman Shahin. Shahin gave the responsibility to Tanvirs uncle Shimul Bhuiyan to allure the MP Anar to bring him to Kolkata and kill him. He was an accomplice in the MP Anar killing mission. The main accused was Shimul Bhuiyans under the instruction and planning, he entered Kolkata through Beanpole border on May 6. He hired a room at Hotel Trishiv at New Town in Kolkata. At various times, he communicated with his uncle Shimul Bhuiyan to make plans for abduction and killing of MP Anar. As per Shahin and his uncle Shimul Bhuiyans plan, he allured MP Anar to go to Kolkata.
During remand on Tuesday, he willingly agreed to give the confessional statement.
Later, the IO of the case submitted a prayer before the court to record his confession.
The DB arrested Tanvir Bhuiyan from the area of Looter Char at Savar on May 23.
On May 31 , Shimul Bhuiyan alias Shihab alias Fazal Mohammad Bhuiyan alias Amanullah Sayeed, Tanvir Bhuiyan and Celesty Rahman were placed on five-day fresh remand after the expiry of eight-day remand.
Among them, Celesty Rahman gave her confessional statement on Monday. The case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station by Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin, daughter of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Md Anwarul Azim, on May 22.
Anwarul Azim Anar, a lawmaker from the ruling Awami League, crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India for treatment on May 12. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswass home in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.
The following day, he left to see a doctor at around noon and was expected to return in the evening. However, a WhatsApp message from his phone to Biswas said that he had gone to Delhi instead and would call if necessary. Since then, he could not be reached by phone. Eventually, the government confirmed his death on May 22, citing Indian police.
Anar was, a three-time MP and also president of Kaliganj upazila unit Awami League.
