The World Environment Day was observed in Khagrachhari's Dighinala upazila on Wednesday with theme of 'Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience'.
On the occasion of the day, a discussion, tree plantation and saplings distribution were held organized by upazila administration.
The Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Muhammad Abul Hasnat Khan presided over the discussion at the seminar room of upazila parishad held in the morning. Naraichhari Forest Division Assistant Director Aktaruzzaman, Dighinala Government High School Headmaster Ekhtar Ali, Dighinala Press Club President Jahangir Alam Raju, Hachinsonpur High School Headmaster Debpriya Bara, British American Tobacco Dighinala Leaf Officer Sukhla Chakma, Assistant Leaf Officer Hasan Ali, Rangamati Leaf Officer Fazal Ahmed, ESG Development Officer Abu Sohraf, Dighinala Environmental Protection Movement President Journalist Zakir Hossain spoke at the discussion.
Speakers at the discussion said that there is no alternative to plant trees to protect the environment, so more and more fruit, forest and medicinal trees should be planted and trees should be taken care of.
Later, the upazila administration and Forestry Program (Chattogram North Leaf Region) distributed around 20,000 fruits and forest saplings among students and locals on the occasion of the day.
It was known that three lakh of fruits, forest and medicinal plants will be distributed in Dighinala upazila this year.
