Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman (Additional Charge) Professor Dr Muhammad Alamgir on Wednesday said that appointing unpaid ombudsmen to impartially redress various grievances at universities is being actively considered.

He said, ''Many victims don't want to file complaint for fear of being identified. As a result, many are getting away with committing crimes. The problem can be resolved if ombudsmen are appointed at universities.'' It will reduce crime at the universities. It will be examined whether the concept of ombudsman is feasible in discussion with the university authorities of the country, he added.
He made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a day-long workshop to increase public awareness about the Right to Information Act and implement the right to information action plan at the UGC building in the capital's Agargaon.
