PANCHAGARH, June 7: A meeting on Vehicle speed control and road safety was held in the district on Thursday.
The meeting was arranged in the conference room of the deputy commissioners office to ensure speed control and road safety.
It was chaired by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Seema Sharmin.
Among others, Sadar Upazila Chairman SM Shahnewaz Pradhan Shubo, Municipal Mayor Zakia Khatun, Executive Engineer of RHD Syed Mahfuzar Rahman, Traffic Inspector Chandan Kumar Roy, BRTA Inspector Rezwan Shah, Motor Transport Workers Union President Abbas Ali, Bus Minibus Owner Association President Motiar Rahman, General Secretary of Motor Transport Workers Union (264) Akbar Ali, and Senior Media Worker Shahidul Islam Shahid spoke at the meeting.
ADM Seema Sharmin said, to ensure road safety, goods and animals, and passengers cannot be carried on roofs of buses; and banners should be used in front of trucks of sacrificial animals on highways three days before and three days after Eid.
She further said, vehicles carrying essential foodstuff, perishable goods, garments, medicines, fertiliser and fuel will be exempted.
There will mobile court operations to stop illegal, unfit and defective vehicles, three wheelers and other unsafe vehicles on highways, she added.
