The election of Baghaichhari upazila has been halted once again due to the effects of adverse weather and strikes of roads and waterways.
The decision was taken following an emergency meeting with law enforcement agencies, the district administration and the district election commission on Saturday morning.
Md Mosharrof Hossain Khan, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rangamati, confirmed the news.
He said that the Baghaichhari Upazila Parishad election scheduled on Sunday (May 9) has been postponed due to bad weather and road and waterway blockades.
The Machalong Election Steering Committee in Baghaichhari Upazila has announced a road and waterway blockade to demand a fair and peaceful election and protest against the threats to the election agents in Sajek, from Saturday morning to evening.
This blockade is supported by the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF).
Meanwhile, Bipul Chakma, member secretary of the Machalong Election Management Committee, said that the road and waterway blockade in Baghaichhari upazila will be withdrawn after 12 pm due to the postponement of the election.
Earlier, The polling in this upazila was scheduled to take place on 29 May but it was halted for cyclone Remal.
