A man was hacked to death allegedly by his stepbrother at Gobindaganj upazila in Gaibandha district on Friday over a land dispute.
The deceased was identified as Shamsul Huda, 42, son of Hafizar Rahman, a resident of Talukokanupur village in the upazila.
Earlier, he succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital of Bogura while undergoing treatment on Friday night.
It was learnt that there had been a long standing dispute between Hafizar Rahman and his step-brother Anwarul Islam over a land.
Following this dispute, They locked in an altercation on Wednesday (June 5) afternoon in front of Anwarul's house while Shamsul was going to market along with his brother Shahin. At one stage of altercation, Anwarul hacked Shamsul and his younger brother Shahin with a machete, leaving them critically injured.
Locals rescued the duo and took them to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex where on-duty docters referred them to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMC) as their condition deteriorated.
Later, Shamsul was shifted to a private hospital where he died on Friday around 8:30 pm.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Shamsul Alom Shah, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station.
The main accused Anwarul Islam went into hide since the incident, he added.
