A woman and her son, who were injured in a
clash that broke out on Thursday over a
land dispute at Kishoreganj upazila in
Nilphamari district, died at a hospital in Rangpur.
Among the victims, Sufala Rani, wife of late Rajani Kanta, died while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Thursday night, while her youngest son Prankrishna Roy, succumbed to his injuries at the same hospital on Friday night.
According to locals and police sources, there was longstanding dispute between the victim's family and their neighbour Surajit Chandra Roy over a piece of a land. On Thursday evening, an argument broke out between the two groups, when Surajit tried to cultivate the disputed land.
At one stage of the altercation, they locked into a fight with leathal weapons, leaving four people from both groups critically injured.
Locals rescued the injured and took them to Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex where the physicians referred the duo to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. They then, succumbed to their injuries at different times between Thursday night to Friday night.
Following the incident, Sufala Rani's eldest son Subash Chandra Roy filed a
murder case with Kishoreganj Police Station accusing 20 people.
Later, police have arrested three people for their involvement in the killing and sent them to jail through a court, said Polash Chandra Mondal, officer-in-charge of the police station.
Efforts are on to arrest the other accused, added the OC.
