Former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed's wife Jishan Mirza and his daughters have sought 15 days' time to appear at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to face questions on charges of accumulating wealth illegally.

Benazir's wife and his two daughters were summoned at the ACC headquarters today (Sunday). But, the lawyer on behalf of them prayed to the ACC in the morning seeking 15 days' time.
A senior official of the ACC said Benazir's wife Jishan Mirza and their two daughters have sought 15 days' time through their lawyer to appear at the ACC.

Benazir, his wife and daughters were summoned on May 28 last. In its notice sent by the ACC, Benazir was asked to present his statement appearing at the ACC in person on June 6, and his wife Jishan Mirza and their two daughters -- Farheen Rishta and Tahsin Raisa -- appearing at the ACC in person on June 9. On June 5 (Wednesday), Benazir submitted a plea seeking 15 days' time through his lawyer. Responding to the plea, the ACC sent him a letter asking to appear on June 23.

In the names of Benazir, his wife and three daughters, there are 627 bighas of land in several districts including Gopalganj, Madaripur and Dhaka; four flats at Gulshan in Dhaka; 33 bank accounts, shares of 19 companies and three BO accounts; and family savings certificates worth Tk 30 lakh.

Responding to two separate appeals of the ACC, a court in Dhaka passed two separate orders on May 23 and 26 asking to confiscate the properties.
