MEHERPUR, June 10: Cow farmers in the district are passing their busy time in rearing their sacrificial animals on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
Sacrificial animals have been prepared by feeding natural feed.
Already animal traders are moving from villages to village to make advance for cow             purchases.
They will send their collected animals to Dhakas markets.
But price bargaining is taking place between cow farmers and traders. Traders are offering lower prices while farmers are asking higher prices on the basis of animal size and rearing cost.
Farmers are worried about importing cows from neighbouring countries.
In Gangni Upazila, farmers are taking extra care of their animals including bathing, feeding green grass, adequate lighting and air management.
Animals are being provided with regular physical check-up and treatment.
Along with the cattle feed, costs of medicine and husbandry have increased.
If animals are not imported from neighbouring countries, they will get fair price. Many people will sit on the path  if the cows enter into Bangladesh following illegal way from the neighbouring country.
Rafiqul Islam of Kunjnagar Village at Gangni said, he has been rearing seven  cows for two years; he  bought these cows of Nepalese breed at Tk 75,000 each; a lot of money has been spent after them over the years.
At present, traders coming home and offering price of Tk 2 lakh each, he added. But he asks a little more price.
Mynal Haque of Kamarkhali Village said, their  four brothers have 21 cows; they  collected calves from Nilphamari at Tk 35 ,000 per calf; now traders are offering price of over Tk 1 lakh each; and traders are also giving  price of fodder till lifting the cows from the farm.

She demanded government incentives for cow rearing.
She was echoed by another Habiba, a housewife from Sehgalpur. She is rearing three cows with a loan from a credit association. This Eid she hopes to get profitable  prices of her animals.
Anwar Hossain, a cow trader of Ruerkandi Village, said, his brother is to take cows to Kamlapur in Dhaka during the on Eid-ul-Azha; in the last year, they took 10 trucks of cows to Dhaka.
So far, they have bought 74 cows in the last 15 days for sending to Dhakas Kamalapur.
Gangni Upazila Livestock Officer Ariful Islam said, 32,705 cows have been readied in the upazila; these included Nepali, Australian, Friesian, Haryana and other breeds; in every poor farmer family, there are a couple of cows; and farms of the wealthy poor are full of cows.
