The first cattle special train left Jamalpur's Islampur for Dhaka on Wednesday with 400 cows eligible for sacrifice ahead of Eid.
The train left Islampur station around 6:30 pm. The cost of transporting each cow is Tk 500 .
The train is carrying a total of 400 cows in 25 wagons. The fare has been fixed at Tk 8,000 per wagon. That is, a cow costs Tk 500 to go to the capital.
Cattle traders said in addition to reducing costs, going to the capital with cows in a safe environment without traffic jams is very good for them.
Railway Nirapatta Bahini (RNB) Dewanganj Circle Officer-in-Charge Hasan Mahmud said, ''Our members are always active to provide security to traders. No disturbance will be allowed in the railway movement.''
Islampur Railway Station Master Shahin Mia said, ''There is good response due to low fare and security. Today a train has left for Dhaka with 400 cows. Another train will leave at night. Besides, a cattle special train will go to the capital tomorrow with more cows.''
