A Rangamati court on Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing a child after failing to rape her.
At the same time, the court also fined him Tk 1,00,000.
Rangamati Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge AEM Ismail Hossain gave this verdict in the afternoon.
This is the first death sentence against an accused after the establishment of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Rangamati.
The condemned convict was Aungbaching Marma.
According to the case statement, the convict Aungbaching brought the victim Mitila Marma, a third grader of local Kodla Government Primary School, to his house on the morning of February 2, 2019 at Barakhola Elka in Rangamati's Chandraghona. Then he tried to rape her but failed and strangled the girl to death. Later, he was caught by the locals and handed over to police.
Later, the girl's father Sathui Aung Marma filed a case with Chandraghona Police Station in this connection.
