Four to die, four get life term in murder cases

Separate courts on Wednesday and Thursday sentenced four people to death and four others to life-term imprisonment in different murder cases in three districts - Rangamati, Narail and Jhalakati.
RANGAMATI: A court in the district on Thursday sentenced a man to death for killing a child after failing to violate her in 2019.
Rangamati District Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge AEM Ismail Hossain handed down verdict at noon.
This is the first death sentence against an accused after the establishment of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal in Rangamati.
The condemned convict is Aungbaching Marma.
The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh.
According to the prosecution, Aungbaching brought Mitila Marma, a third grader of local Kodla Government Primary School, to his house at Barakhola Elka of Chandraghona in the morning of February 2, 2019. Then he tried to rape her. As he failed, he strangled the girl to death. Later on, he was caught by the locals and handed over to police.
In this regard, the girls father Sathui Aung Marma filed a case with Chandraghona Police Station (PS).
Police then submitted the charge-sheet to the court.
Following this, the tribunal judge pronounced the verdict on Thursday noon after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
NARAIL: A court in the district on Wednesday sentenced three people to death for killing a man in Lohagara Upazila in 2018.
Narail District and Sessions Court Judge Almach Hossain Mridha passed the verdict in the morning.
The court also fined the convicts Tk 1 lakh each.
The condemned convicts are: Anarul Molla, son of late Abul Khair Molla, a resident  of Makrail Village; Jinarul Islam alias Tara Mia, son of  late Moktar Sardar of Morichpasha Village; and Md Nazmul Shikder, son of Akubbar Shikder of Arpara Village in Lohagara Upazila of the district.
According to the prosecution, on June 23 in 2018, the convicts called one Palash Molla from his house by tempting him to buy an easy-bike for Tk 40,000.
On June 26, 2018, police recovered an unidentified body from a paddy field in Dhankhola Village of Sadar PS in Magura.
Palashs family identified the body after receiving news from various media and seeing pictures on July 8, 2018. Later on, the deceaseds brother Ahad Ali filed a murder case with Lohagara PS.
The investigating officer of the case then submitted the charge-sheet against them to the court.
Following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
JHALAKATI: A court in the district on Wednesday sentenced four people to life-term imprisonment for killing a youth in Nalchity Upazila in 2019.
District and Sessions Judge Md Rahibul Islam handed down the verdict at noon in presence of the convicts.
The condemned convicts are: former chairman of Mollahat Union Parishad (UP) Kabir Hossain, his brother Delwar Hossain Hawlader, sons of late Mokim Hawlader, residents of Dakshin Kamdebpur Village; Saidul Islam Khan, 30, son of Monirul Khan of Madhya Kamdebpur Village; and  Faruq Mallik, 45, son of Sultan Mallik of Pashchim Kamdebpur Village in Nalchity Upazila.    
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, and in default, they have to suffer one more year in jail.
Ten accused were also acquitted as the charges brought against them could not be proved.
Public Prosecutor of the court Abdul Mannan Rasul confirmed the matter.
According to the prosecution, the convicts hacked one Saidul Islam, 35, son of Abdul Aziz Talukder of Nachanmohal Village under Nalchity Upazila, on March 23, 2023. Saiduls sister Aklima Begum and her son Rumman were also injured by them at that time.
The deceaseds father Abdul Aziz Talukder lodged a murder case with Nalchity PS accusing 14 people.
The investigating officer of the case then submitted the charge-sheet to the court on March 28, 2020.
Following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday noon after examining the case records and taking depositions of 18 witnesses.
