KAPTAI, RANGAMATI, June 13: Hilly cows are much demanded at local haats in Kaptai Upazila of the district ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Cows collected from remote areas of the hilly region are selling at Natun Bazar Haat of Kaptai.

Consumers are coming to the haat from different areas including Chattogram, Rangunia and Rawjan.

Cow purchasers Belal and Ashraf from Rawjan said, "We want hilly cows because hilly cows consume different natural  leaves and creepers, so they are very tasty and are full of nutrition values. They carry no disease."

Traders Mong Sui Marma and Laisign Chakma, who came from  Bilaichhari and Maini, said, "We set free our cows for grazing freely in hilly jungles; they don need bran; they live on leaves and creepers. So they are much demanded."

Cow traders Abul Kalam and Ashish Babu at Kaptai Natun Bazaar said, prices of hilly cows and goats are likely to come down a bit at the last time of the Eid trading as the supply is higher.
Customers are bargaining, they added.
