Businessman Shawkat Hossain Sumon came out for office with workers' salary and allowance of Tk 52 lakh. On his way, he went to Star Hotel and Restaurant in old part of Dhaka to have breakfast. But, he left his bag containing the entire amount in a rented car. Taking advantage of the situation, car driver Rubel fled with the money.

Finding no other way, Sumon filed a case at Sutrapur Police Station on Friday. Within 12 hours after filing the case, driver Rubel was arrested by police from Cox's Bazar. Then according to his confession, police recovered the money from Kaliganj in Gazipur and Cox's Bazar.

DMP's Lalbagh Division's deputy commissioner Mahbub-uz-Zaman said this on Sunday afternoon.

He said driver Rubel fled away with the money of businessman Sumon on June 12. After trying hard to find him out, the victim filed a case on June 14. Apart from arresting driver Rubel, Sutrapur police recovered Tk 46.20 lakh from his possession.

The DC also said Rubel hid the money beneath the ground keeping in polythene bags and plastic boxes at different places in Gazipur and Cox's Bazar. Drives are going on to recover the rest of the amount.
Though the victim claimed about missing of Tk 52 lakh, Rubel told police that he found Tk 49 lakh in the bag. Of the amount, he gave Tk 1 lakh to his mother, and repaid Tk 1 lakh he borrowed earlier, and spent Tk 1 lakh while travelling to Cox's Bazar.

Businessman Sumon said, "I could not imagine that I will get back such a large amount missing for my own faults. I went to the CMM Court to appear in connection with a case coming out of my Bashundhara residence. The incident happened when I went to a hotel in old Dhaka to have breakfast leaving the bag behind in the car."

In this regard, Assistant Police Commissioner (Kotwali Zone) Nazrul Islam said police launched drives immediately after receiving complaint. Following his arrest, he told about fleeing with the money. At present, the accused is in jail.
