Bombay chilli farming profitable in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, June 19: Bombay chilli farming has been a very profitable business in the district.

Once the farming of this chilli was very limited. Now its demand in both home and abroad is higher. The chilli is being cultivated commercially.

Only few years back, the farming of Bombay chilli was limited in Kuriana Village  in  Nesarabad Upazila of the district.
At present, its cultivation has expanded in at least 10 villages of four unions of the upazila.

From 2011, the agro-product has been exported to Japan, fetching a good volume of foreign currency.

 Local farmer Asaduzzman Asad said, thousands of famers are involved in cultivating the chilli in the upazila.

 Every day 8 to10 of Bombay chilli loaded mini-trucks transport the chilli to Dhaka and other areas of the country. The chilli is also transported by launches.  
     
District Marketing Officer (DMO) Abdul Mannan Hawlader said, the process of exports starts after collecting best quality of Bombay chilli from the district.  

Firstly, after grinding the Bombay chilli by machines, maintaining international export quality standards, the powered version is packed according to buyers desires.  Japanese buyers are buying the chilli because of good taste and best fine scent.
   
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension Dr Nazrur Islam Sikder said, the commercial farming of Bombay chilli  is increasing in the district; it is a new prospect of earning foreign currencies.
"We need to look for searching new marketing of   Bombay chilli," he added.
