A housewife allegedly committed suicide by taking pesticide at Bhuruingamari upazila in Kurigram district on Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Aktar Sumona, 15, daughter of Mukul Miah, a resident of Gasidanga village under Paikergasa union in the upazila.
Local UP member Nuruzzaman said Sumona married to Lebu Miah eight months ago. Since then, she had been living in her father's house as her husband lives in Dhaka.
On Thursday night, Sumona took pesticide when her family members went to attend an event near their house.
Sumona's mother saw her unconscious body lying down beside their tube-well at around 9:00 pm when her family members returned home.
Family members rescued Sumona and took her to Bhuruingamari Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor referred her to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) as her condition deteriorated.
She died on the way to RMCH around 10:00 pm.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to a hospital morgue of Kurigram for an autopsy, said Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge of Bhuruingamari Police Station.
An unnatural death case has been filed in this regard, the police official added.
