Two friends drown in Sherpur boat capsize

Two friends, including a medical student, died as a boat capsized at Jhenaigati upazila in Sherpur district on Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 2.30 at Nala Duba area in Bailsa Beel of Kanduli village under the upazila.

The deceased two were Mosharraf Hossain Milton, 21, son of Surhab Mia from Kanduli village and a third-year student at Rangpur Medical College; and Amanullah (21), son of Sada Mia from the same area and a second-year honors student at Sherpur Tinani College.

According to locals, the duo along with other six friends from Kanduli village rented a boat to have a leisure trip at Bailsa Beel. While they were having fun at Nala Duba area, the boat lost balance and capsized, submerging all eight friends.

Locals rushed there hearing their screams for help and recovered Mosharraf Hossain Milton as dead.

Amanullah Aman was taken to Jhenaigati Upazila Health Complex, where he later died while receiving treatment. The three other friends who fell ill due to the incident were admitted to Sherpur Sadar Hospital. The remaining three friends are reported to be in good health.

Jhenaigati Police Station officer-in-charge Bashir Ahmed Badal confirmed the incident, adding that legal actions will be taken in this regard.
