Nine people murdered in eight districts

Nine people have been murdered in separate incidents in eight districts - Magura, Mymensingh, Gopalganj, Bogura, Noakhali, Rangamati, Sirajganj and Rajshahi, in recent times.

MAGURA: A man was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over a land dispute in Sadar Upazila of the district on Thursday.

The incident took place in Benga Village of the upazila in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Jahid Biswas, 38, a resident of Benga Village in the upazila.

Sheikh Mehedi Russel, officer-in-charge (OC) of Magura Sadar Police Station (PS), confirmed the incident.

OC Sheikh Mehedi Russel said that there had been a longstanding dispute between Anarul and Ashraf of the area over the ownership of a piece of land.

According to locals, the conflict escalated on Thursday morning when Anarul began filling the disputed land. Ashrafs son Mehedi attempted to stop him, which led to a violent confrontation. At that time, Anarul and his associates attacked on Mehedi, Jahid, and several others. Jahid was critically injured in the attack.

Later on, Jahid was rescued by the local people and taken to Magura District Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor referred him to Dhaka following the deterioration of his condition. He then succumbed to his injuries in an ambulance on the way to Dhaka in the evening.

A murder case has been filed with Magura Sadar PS in connection with the incident, said the OC.
However, the law enforcers are trying to arrest those involved in the killing and legal action would be taken in this regard, the OC added.

NANDAIL, MYMENSINGH: A man was killed by his rivals over a land dispute in Nandail Upazila of the district on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Matikata Village under Kharua Union of the upazila in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Lal Mia, 25, son of Siraj Uddin, a resident of the area.

Local sources said Lal Mia along with his father was working in their Aman paddy field in the morning. At that time, they had an altercation with Sirajs brother Ghiyasuddin and his son Hafez Mizan over cutting ails of the land. At one stage, a clash broke out between them, which left Siraj and Lal Mia critically injured.

Locals then rescued the injured and took them to neighbouring Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Lal Mia dead and referred Siraj Uddin to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) for better treatment.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

GOPALGANJ: A schoolboy was allegedly murdered by his friends in Kashiani Upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The deceased was identified as Apan Sheikh, 15, son of Tuhin Sheikh, a resident of Baghjhapa Village in the upazila. He was a ninth grader at Kashiani Pilot High School.

Police, however, arrested the deceaseds four friends for interrogation.

It was known that some of his friends called Apan out of the house at around 8 pm on Tuesday and took him to the rail bridge in the area. After a while, two friends rushed Apan to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The deceaseds family members alleged that the friends might have killed Apan in a planned way. They demanded justice over the killing.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

However, the law enforcers have detained four people for questioning in this connection.

Kashiani PS OC Md Jillur Rahman confirmed the incident, adding that the law enforcers are investigating the matter and legal action would be taken after investigation.

BOGURA: Two teenagers were hacked to death and another was injured in an attack brought out by a group of unidentified miscreants in Nishindara Chakar Para area of the district town early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Sharif, 17, son of Dudu Mia of Nishindara Chakar Para area, and Roman, 18, son of Shafiqul Islam of the same area.

The injured person is Hussain. He was receiving treatment at a local hospital in the district town.

Relatives of deceased Sharif said that someone called out Sharif on his mobile phone from the house at early hours.

At around 1:30 am, they came out after hearing the sound of gunshots and found Sharif, Roman and Hussain lying in a pool of blood.

Later on, they rescued Hussain, but Sharif and Roman died on the spot.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Snigdho Akter said that the reason behind the murder could not be ascertained immediately.

Police are trying to find out the motive behind the murder, she said.

The bodies were kept in the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsies, the ASP added.

NOAKHALI: A young man was stabbed to death and another injured over trivial matter in Begumganj Upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The incident took place at Kamlartek Bazar under Ward No. 2 in Kutubpur Union of the upazila at around 8 pm.

The deceased was identified as Jahidul Islam alias Riaz, 20, son of Harunur Rashid alias Kala Mia, a resident of Ward No. 2 Pashchim Kutubpur Village in the upazila.

He worked in a leather factory in Dhaka.
 
The injured person is Monir Hossain, 18.

Local sources said Jahidul had an altercation with Md Riaz, 20, son of Mohiuddin of the area, over calling by name about four to five days back. Following this, Riaz along with some of his associates attacked on Jahidul while he along with his friends was having tea at a tea stall at Kamlartek Bazar at around 8 pm, and stabbed Jahidul, leaving him dead on the spot.

Monir Hossain was also injured at that time as he came forward to rescue Jahidul.

Being informed, police recovered the body.

Local people, however, apprehended accused Riaz and handed him over to police.

Begumganj PS OC Md Anwarul Islam confirmed the incident, adding that legal action would be taken in this connection.

RANGAMATI: A bus helper was killed in a gunfight between two groups over establishing supremacy in Baghaichhari Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

The incident took place in Baghaihat market area of the upazila in the afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Md Nayeem, helper of Shanti Paribahan bus.  

According to locals, the firing between the Jana Sanhati Samiti (JSS-MN Larma) and the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF) began on Tuesday morning. Shanti Paribahan supervisor Nayeem was shot dead while returning from bathing in a pond as the two sides exchanged fire.

Following the incident, UPDFs Rangamati Unit Organizer Sachal Chakma condemned the killing of Nayeem and the injury of several others, demanding immediate arrest and punishment of the perpetrators.

However, no statements have been received from the Chattogram Hill Tracts Jana Samhati Samiti (MN Larma) and UPDF (Democratic) regarding the incident.

Rangamati ASP Maruf Ahmed confirmed the death, adding that the law enforcers cordoned off the area and are actively ensuring the safety of tourists in Sajek.

SIRAJGANJ: One person was killed and 12 others were injured in a clash between two groups in Shahzadpur Upazila of the district on Tuesday.

Centring local dominance, the clash took place in Charbornia Village at Gala Union in the upazila in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Sanwar Hossain, 35, son of Khodabox of that village.

ASP (Shahzadpur Circle) Md Kamruzzaman said, the dominance dispute had been continuing between Akher Group and Sayem Group of that village for a long time.

The clash continued for about one hour, killing one Sanwar Hossain while at least, 12 others were wounded, he added.

After being informed, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, the police official maintained.

RAJSHAHI: A man was killed by the attack carried out by his rivals over a land dispute in the district recently.

Deceased Ilias Ahmed, 30, was the son of late Sajedur Rahman, a resident of Majhigram area under Gonipur Union in Bagmara Upazila of the district.

It was known that the rivals attacked on Ilias on May 14 last over a land dispute, and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving critically injured. Iliass younger brother Imran Ali, 28, was also injured at that time as he came forward to save his brother.  

Locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

Later on, Ilias succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH recently while undergoing treatment.

Bagmara PS OC Arbind Sarker confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
