A young woman, who was the wife of a
police constable, found hanging in her bedroom at Kalkini upazila in
Madaripur district on Saturday morning.
However, the victim's family alleged that the deceased Nadia Begum, 18, was
murdered by her husband Zahid Hossain, a constable of Damudya Police Station in Shariatpur, following a dispute over dowry money.
According to locals, they have spotted that Nadia was hanging from the ceiling of her room in the morning. She was rescued and taken to Kalkini Upazila Health Complex where the physicians declared her dead.
Later, on information, police rushed there and recovered the body from the hospital.
Kamrul Islam, an advocate of Madaripur Judge Court, said that Zahid used to beat Nadia often to pay him the dowry money. In sequel to it, he beat the young housewife on Friday night and then, strangled her to death. Subsequently, he hanged the body with the ceiling to prove the incident as a
suicide.
However, since the incident happened, Zahid went into hiding, said the advocate.
Mukta Akter, the on-duty doctor Kalkini Upazila Health Complex, said Nadia was brought to the hospital dead.
Kalkini Police Station officer-in-charge Sarkar Mamun said the body was sent to a hospital morgue for autopsy and the actual reason behind the death would be known after autopsy report.
"The legal actions will be taken in this regard upon investigation," added the OC.
