Illegal nets worth TK 18 lakh seized in Barishal

Illegal nets worth about Tk 18 lakh have been seized in raids from two godowns at Padarhat Bazar under Muladi upazila in Barishal.

Mohammad Alam, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer of the Department of Fisheries, confirmed the matter on Saturday afternoon.

He said the Directorate of Fisheries, Upazila Administration, and Police conducted a joint operation in the Padarhat Bazar. 

During the operation, 320 new Chinese nets and 160,000 meters of current nets were seized and burnt.

Two traders were detained for selling illegal nets at that time.

Later, the mobile court led by Assistant Land Commissioner Hakim Azharul Islam, fined TK 5,000 each to detained.
