Former Inspector General of Police (
IGP)
Benazir Ahmed did not appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (
ACC) on Sunday (June 23), though he has been given additional 16 days.
He was scheduled to appear before the ACC at 10am, but he did not appear till 11am.
The deadline to appear in the ACC ends today. The ACC officials said that Benazir did not submit any request seeking more time.
However, according to the ACC laws and regulations, Benazir will not be given any more time for second time application. In such a situation, a notice regarding to submit wealth statement will be sent to his address soon. After that, he will get 21 working days and if applies for time, he will get another 15 working days.
While talking to reporters, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said that Benazir Ahmed will not be given any more time to appear before the ACC for questioning. But the investigation into the allegations of accumulating wealth beyond known sources of income against Benazir and his family members is going on.
The ACC earlier fixed June 23 for questioning the
former IGP at the commission office regarding his alleged accumulation
of illegal wealth following a prayer.
On May 28, the ACC summoned Benazir Ahmed and his family to its office for their statement on the allegations of amassing huge assets beyond known source of income on June 6 and June 9 respectively.
Following that, Benazir appealed to the ACC through his lawyer for a 15-day-extension of the deadline.
