Benazir didn't appear at ACC, gives written statement

Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed did not appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday (June 23). However, he submitted his statement in written sending a letter.

He was summoned at the ACC head office for the second at 10:00am on Sunday. Instead of appearing, he sent his statement through a letter to the ACC.
In this regard, the ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin said Benazir Ahmed sent written statement through a letter to the ACC chairman on June 21. However, he did not seek time anew in the letter. In his letter, he tried to explain the allegations raised against him.

Sources said Benazir Ahmed has been staying abroad along with his family members. He has not returned to the country yet.

On the other hand, Benazir's lawyer Shah Manzurul Huque could not be communicated for remarks.

The ACC has so far detected 12 flats in the names of Benazir Ahmed and his family members in Dhaka, 697 bighas of land in different districts, shares of 19 companies and family savings certificates worth Tk 30 lakh, 33 bank accounts and three beneficiary owner (BO) accounts. The court has ordered to confiscate these properties.
