Bangladesh mens national hockey team won the champions trophy of the AHF Cup Junior Hockey for the second consecutive time following a 4-2 win over the Chinese in the final on Sunday in Singapore. Bangladesh women, on the other hand, became runners-up of the womens event.
Bangladesh played well against the stronger Chinese opponents from the very beginning. Rakibul Hasan stuck two goals for the winners in the 22th and 28th minute. In the meantime, Amirul Islam also added one in the 25th minute.
Although the Chinese came close to levelling with two goals by Chan and Lu in the 33rd and 41st minute, Bangladesh diminish all the Chinese hope with a 53-minute goal by Mohammad Joy. Bangladesh was able to keep the lead and win it.
For Bangladesh women, it was the second time and they made a mark by winning the runners-up title this time. The women in red and green outfits defeated Singapore by 7-1 in the last match.
They had 15 points after six matches and therefore, placed second. Previously, Bangladesh women played in the tournament in 2019 and was not able to win a single match then.
