A woman and her seven-year-old daughter were killed and four others injured after a pickup van ploughed through some people on the Bhandaria-Tushkhali-Mathbaria road in Dakshin Ikri village under Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Jhumaiya Akhtar, 32, wife of Hossain Saheb, a resident of Ikri village in the upazila and her daughter Hawa AKtar.
The injured-Yasin, 5, Maya Begum, 35, Hafiza Akhtar Misti, 28, and Hossain Saheb, 32, are now undergoing treatment at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
Jhumaiya and her daughter were waiting for a bus in Sahebbari area in Ikri village to go to Chattogram while the others went there to see them off, said Abir Md Hossain, officer in charge of Bhandaria police station.
The pickup van coming from Mathbaria lost control and ploughed into them, leaving the two dead on the spot and four others injured, he said.
The injured were first taken to Bhandaria upazila health complex where the on-duty doctors referred them to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated, the OC said.
The vehicle was seized but its driver managed to flee, he added.
