Three teenagers, including two brothers, drowned while bathing in the Padma River at Sadar upazila of Pabna district on Monday afternoon.

The incident took place around 1pm at Bhadoria Dangi area under Chartarapur union of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Sabbir Hossain, 14, a student of class eight at Natun Bazar High School, his younger brother Siam Hossain, 10, a third-grader at Gohaibari Government Primary School, they both were sons of Alal Pramanik of Gohaibaria village; and Noor Hossain, 10, a third-grader of Kanchipara Primary School and son of Islam Sardar from Atghariapara village.

Locals said that a group of children, including the trio, had been attempting to hang an Argentine flag from a mango tree near their home around 1pm. After being advised against it due to the midday heat, the three victims along with another left the tree and headed to the river to take a bath.

Shortly after, locals were informed about the incident by the lone survivor and rushed there. They found them floating on the river and recovered the three bodies.

It was claimed that Sabbir lost his life trying to save the younger boys.

Pabna Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Md Rowshan Ali confirmed the matter and emphasized the importance of supervising children, especially as water levels in the river continue to rise.
