Four get life term in murder, drugs cases

Separate courts on Sunday sentenced four people including two women to life-term imprisonment in two different murder and drugs cases in two districts - Sirajganj and Chattogram.  
SIRAJGANJ: A court in the district sentenced a woman to life-term imprisonment for killing her husband over extramarital affairs.
Sirajganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Judge Md Abul Bashar Mia passed the verdict on Sunday.
The court also fined the convict Tk 50,000, and in default, she has to suffer six more months in jail.
The convict is Mayna Khatun, 30, daughter of Mojdar Ali of Charuimuri Village of Ullapara Upazila in the district.
According to the prosecution, after the marriage, Mayna had been staying at her fathers house. On September 21 in 2012, Babu came to his in-laws house. In the afternoon, Mayna strangulated him to death and spread a rumour that Babu committed suicide.  
Following the incident, father of Babu filed a case against seven people including his daughter-in-law Mayna and her lover Ahmed Ali with Ullapara Police Station (PS).
Later on, police submitted the charge-sheet against Mayna and Ahmed Ali to the court.
After recording the deposition of the witnesses, the court on Sunday sentenced her life-term imprisonment and acquitted Ahmed Ali as the charges brought against him was not proven.
CHATTOGRAM: A court in the district on Sunday sentenced three people including two women to life-term imprisonment in a drugs case filed with Baklia PS in the city.
The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, and in default of teh payment, they will have to suffer one year more in prison.
Chattogram Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Shariful Alam Bhunya gave this   verdict.
The convicts are: Ayyub, Zohra Khatun and Nur Nahar.
The court bench assistant Omar Fuad confirmed the matter.
According to the case statement, police arrested the three people along with 15,000 yaba tablets on September 1, 2021, in a drive at a house in Drumpatti area under Baklia PS in the city.

Later on, a case under the Narcotics Control Act was filed with the PS against them.

Following this, the court pronounced the verdict on Sunday after examining the case records and taking depositions of the witnesses.
