Speeding motorcycle leaves elderly man dead

An elderly man was killed when a speeding motorbike hit him at Phulbari upazila in Kurigram district on Tuesday night.

The accident took place around 9pm on the Phulbari-Balarhat road in front of Phulbari Upazila Health Complex.
The deceased was identified as Ataur Rahman, 65, father of newly-elected vice chairman Mehedi Hasan.

According to witnesses, a speeding motorbike hit the elderly man from behind while he was on his way home after performing Isha prayer. He was critically injured at that time and taken to the upazila health complex where the physicians referred him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. He then, succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

Phulbari Police Station officer-in-charge Nawabur Rahman confirmed the death matter and said that local aprrehended the driver of the bike and legal actions will be taken if the family members file a complaint in this regard.
