Two women were killed by lightning strikes in separate incidents in two districts - Jamalpur and Panchagarh, in three days.
JAMALPUR: A woman was killed by lightning strike in Melandah Upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Ankhi Aktar, 30, daughter of Abed Ali, a resident of Guzamanika Village under the upazila.
It was known that Ankhi Aktar was struck by lightning while she was bathing in rain in front of her house in the afternoon, which left her critically injured.
She was then rescued by the family members and rushed to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Melandah Police Station (PS) Raju Ahmed confirmed the incident.
PANCHAGARH: A woman was killed after being struck by lightning in Sadar Upazila of the district on Monday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sollo Bala, 50, wife of Jogesh Chandra Ray, a resident of Ghagrapra Village under Harivasa Union in the upazila.
The deceaseds younger brother Gobindo Chandra Ray said that thunderbolt struck on Sollo Bala in the morning while she went to tube-well amid rain, which left her critically injured.
Later on, the family members rescued her and took her to Panchagarh Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the woman dead.
Panchagarh PS OC Prodip Kumar Roy confirmed the incident, adding that a general diary was filed with the PS in this regard.
