Three men allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in two districts - Pabna and Barishal, recently.
SANTHIA, PABNA: A Malaysia expatriate reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Santhia Upazila of the district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased youth was identified as Jahidul Islam, 24, son of Shukchand Ali of Rasulpur Village under Khetupara Union in the upazila. He was a migrant worker, who had returned home from Malaysia on March, 2024.
According to locals and the deceaseds family members, Jahidul had gone to Malaysia about a year back taking loans from various people. About three months back, he fell victim to a gang (oggyan party) in Malaysia and lost all of his earned money, which left him mentally distressed.
Consequently, being unable to repay the loans and lacking of the money to go abroad again, he started suffering from anxiety and depression, they said.
On Tuesday night, Jahidul left the house at around 11 pm after having dinner with the family members, but did not return.
Later on, the family members found him hanging from a branch of a mango tree at around 6 am on Wednesday.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and sent it to Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Santhia Police Station (PS) Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case has been filed in this regard and legal action will be taken upon the autopsy report.
BARISHAL: Two people allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in the district recently.
A man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the city on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Khokon Mandal, 45, hailed from Swarupkathi. He along with his wife Anita Mandal and two daughters Shukla Mandal and Rai Mandal lived in a rented house owned by one Milton Mia in Monsa Bari area under Kawnia PS in the city.
Local sources said Khokon Mandal along with his wife and two daughters had been living in the area for the last 15 to 20 years. He also had been suffering from various diseases for long. Due to his health issues, he could not participate in any work. As a result, the family suffered severe financial crisis. Following this, Khokon was mentally upset and hanged himself from the ceiling of a room in the rented house at noon while no one was at home.
Being informed, police recovered the body in the afternoon and sent it to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Kawnia PS OC Md Asaduzzaman confirmed the incident, adding that necessary steps would be taken in this regard.
On the other hand, another man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Muladi Upazila of the district recently.
Deceased Nur Nabi Hawlader, 35, son of late Abdul Mannan Hawlader, was a resident of Hosnabad Village under Gachhua Union in the upazila.
The deceaseds uncle Altaf Hossain Hawlader said Nur Nabi had been suffering from mental instability. Following this, he hanged himself from a branch of a tree in an orchard next to the house recently.
Being informed, police recovered the body from the scene and handed it over to the deceaseds family members without an autopsy as per their request.
