Police have arrested seven persons reportedly for gang raping a newlywed bride at Khilkhet area in the capital on Friday midnight.

The newlywed bride was returning home with her husband from a relative’s house in Khilkhet on Friday midnight. On their way, they were blocked by 6 to 7 individuals who took them to a nearby jungle at Bonrupa area and raped the bride, confining her husband.
However, the husband managed to escape from the scene and reported the incident to the police calling on the National Emergency Number '999'.

Later, following the complaint of the victim's husband, several teams from Khilkhet Police Station conducted several raids in the capital city arrested seven individuals, including the main accused, Abul Kashem.

According to police, the newlywed bride went out with her husband on Friday evening. When they reached the Bonrupa area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Khilkhet, they were abducted by a group of seven people, led by a man named Abul Kashem, also known as Sumon. The abductors took the couple into the bushes of Bonrupa area and demanded a ransom Tk 3,00,000 from the husband. They released the husband to bring the money and then, he contacted the national emergency service 999.

Meanwhile, the assailants continued to physically assault and torture the bride. Despite her repeated pleas for mercy, the perpetrators subjected her to inhumane treatment and eventually raped her. Later, the assailants fled the scene upon noticing the police presence.

Confirming the matter, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of Gulshan Division, Rifat Rahman Shamim, said that police rushed to the Bonrupa area upon receiving the information. The assailants kept changing their positions in the bushes to evade capture. By early dawn, the police successfully rescued the bride, but the assailants fled.

"However, they were arrested later who have confessed to their involvement in the gang rape. One of them was previously known to the bride and efforts are on to unveil the incident," added the DC.
