The country is likely to face huge load-shedding in the next couple of days as the supply of electricity from Indian Adani Groups coal-fired power plant halted power production completely from Friday (28 June) for technical glitch.
Bangladesh is receiving about 1,500 megawatts of electricity from the two units of Adanis plant that exclusively designed to Bangladesh through Rahanpur in Chapainawabganj grid line.
"One of its unit has been out of production for routine maintenance while the other halted power generation due to a technical glitch on Friday," according to the PGCBs website.
However, Power Development Board or Adani s local office didn issue any release in this regard, official preferring anonymity has admitted that they didn get any electricity from Adanis plant.
"We have not any remarks from them (Adani), they could not provide any exact timeframe for the resumption of electricity supply," official said.
However, the second unit of the plant halted its power generation on 25 June due to technical cause and had since been scaling up gradually.
However, a technical glitch led to a complete suspension of power generation at the unit at 9:43 am on Friday. There have been efforts to fix the issues, official said.
The Adani power plant began supplying an average of 750 MW electricity from its first unit in March last year, while the second unit went into operation in June.
The company sent the first unit into maintenance amid a low demand during the Eid holidays, which is scheduled to resume operation on July 5.
The two units have a production capacity of 800 MW each.
Power Division official said the power situation may be worse as a 622 MW unit of the Payra Power Plant has been under maintenance since June 25.
They however said that the windy and rainy weather has helped them to manage the situation.
