Man 'beaten to death' in Gaibandha

A man was allegedly beaten to death  by his rivals over a land dispute in Gaibandha's Sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased was identified as Bodiuzzaman Zamal, 50, a resident of Hashem Bazar Purbo Para area under Kholahati union in the upazila.

Locals said Bodiuzzaman had a long standing dispute with nearby, Ilfat Ali. Following this dispute, a group of Bodiuzzaman's rivals beat him while he was alone in Sarrasta area adjacent to Molla Auto Furniture on Saturday evening, leaving him critically injured.

Family members rescued him and took him to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
On information, police recovered the body and brought it to the police station, said Masud Rana, officer-in-charge of Gaibandha Sadar Police Station. 

Efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused in this incident, he added.
