Eminent poet Asad Bin Hafiz has passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital in the early hours on Monday.
He was 66 and breathed his last around 12:55am on Monday, confirmed his youngest son, Ahmad Shamil.
Asad Bin Hafiz was a leading figure in the Islamic cultural movement and one of the prominent poets of Bengali literature. He was also a distinguished cultural organizer, lyricist, and writer, as well as a publisher.
Born on January 1, 1958, in Borogao village under Kaliganj upazila of Gazipur district, Asad Bin Hafiz was son of Muhammad Hafizuddin Munshi and Julekha Begum. He was well-known as a distinguished poet, essayist, storyteller, and lyricist in Bangladesh.
Ideologically, he was a follower of Farrukh Ahmad. His literary works reflected the inspiration for the revival and revolution of the Muslim society in Bengal. Alongside his creative contributions to modern Bengali literature, he played a significant role in incorporating an Islamic perspective in his works.
His writings also expressed revolutionary thoughts and ideas. He was actively involved in the Islamic cultural movement. In 1980, he graduated with honors in Bengali literature from Dhaka University and later completed his master's degree in the same field in 1983.
Asad Bin Hafiz made remarkable contributions across various branches of literature, including poetry, stories, essays, children's literature, research, and editing. He published approximately 81 books. Throughout his illustrious career and literary journey, he received numerous awards and honors in recognition of his work.
