FENI, July 2: Vast areas became inundated in Porshuram and Fulgazi upazilas of the district due to breaking of the Muhuri River embankment at three points.

HSC and equivalent exams of Tuesday (July 2) in four centres of Porshuram Upazila and two ones of Fulgazi Upazila have been suspended.

Non-stop raining and hilly tide from India caused the breaking to the river dam; living houses, roads, croplands and fish ponds have been submerged.

Dakkhin Shaldhor point of the embankment in Porshuram Upazila, and Uttar Daulotpur and Kismat Ghoniamorah points in Fulgazi  Upazila  got broken at about 11am on Monday; water entering into localities submerged at least 10 villages.

Porshuram Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Afroza Habib Shapla said, the breaking in the embankment point of the Dakkhin Shaldhor Village flooded vast areas.

Fulgazi UNO Tania Bhuiyan said, Kismat Ghoniamorah and Uttar Daulotpur point breaking deluged wide localities.

Feni-Porshuram Road in the Fulgazi part has been submerged, damaging several shops in the bazaar along the road.

The water in the river started to recede since the morning on Tuesday. Now the Muhuri River is flowing above 125 centimetre of the danger mark.
