30 villages flooded in Ukhiya

The low lying areas of at least 30 villages have been flooded in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila due to continuous heavy rains and landslides for four days.

More than 4,000 people are stranded in water. Many houses, rural roads, culverts were destroyed. Many cattle are dying as the low lying areas are flooded.
Jalia Palong UP Chairman SM Syed Alam said hundreds of families are trapped in the water in the coastal areas of Deil Para, Numberi Para and Ghatghar Para.

Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik's (SHUJAN) Ukhiya President Mohammad Noor Mohammad Shikder said the traffic system has been closed due to heavy rains and landslides for four days. In addition, numerous houses, trees and water bodies were destroyed and extensive damage was occured.

Haldia Palong UP Chairman Imrul Kayes Chowdhury said Rumkha Chowdhury Para, Barabil Moni Market and other areas were flooded. Vegetable fields and Aman season seed beds were washed away. Local fishermen said that fishes have been washed away due to flooding in the fishing grounds and ponds.

The upazila nirbahi officer Tanvir Hossain visited the low-lying flooded areas on Wednesday. He directed the local public representatives to prepare a list of damages.
Upazila Project Implementation Officer Al Mamun said that people living at risk have been asked to move to safe places by miking and shelters have been kept open.
