Stocks maintain gaining streak

Countrys both the bourses, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) Wednesday also witnessed an upward trend like earlier as investors continued their buying spree on large-cap issues amid optimism.

DSEX, the prime index of the DSE, went up by 33.65 points or 0.63 per cent to settle at 5,373.84. The DSE 30 Index, comprising blue chips, and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) also gained 8.30 points to finish at 1,912.93 and 8.81 points closing at 1,186.55.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, increased to Taka 5392.77 million on the countrys premier bourse which was Taka 4406.34 million at the previous session of the week.

Out of 395 issues traded, 241 closed green, 97 in the red and 57 remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

BEACHHATCH topped the turnover chart, followed by UNILEVERCL, AIL, ORIONINFU and SONALIPAPR.

KBPPWBIL was the days best performer, posting a gain of 10 per cent while ATLASBANG was the worst loser, losing 2.96 percent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also ended higher with the CSE All Share Price Index - CASPI -advancing 84.95 points to settle at 15,157.03 and the Selective Categories Index - CSCX gaining 53.26 points to close at 9,129.54.

Of the issues traded, 130 advanced, 76 declined and 17 remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port citys bourse traded 19.91 lakh shares and mutual fund units with a turnover value of Taka 5.55 crore.    —BSS
