UKHIYA, COXS BAZAR, July 3: A night-guard of Ukhiya Rohingya camp was shot dead during a violent clash between the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) and the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation (RSO) in the upazila of the district early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Md Solim, 18, son of Moulvi Makbul, a resident of Hakimpara under Palongkhali Camp. He was a security guard of the camp.
According to Amir Zafar, commanding officer of Armed Police Battalion (APBn)-8, the confrontation took place at around 2:30 am on Tuesday at the E/3 Block of Rohingya Camp-14 in Ukhiya. Two groups of ARSA and RSO members equipped with guns exchanged bullets, which left Solim dead on the spot and two others injured.
On information, a team from APBn promptly arrived at the scene to control the situation. The injured individuals were rescued and taken to a local hospital for treatment, APBn Commanding Officer Amir Zafar added.
Officer-in-Charge of Ukhiya Police Station Shamim Hossain confirmed the incident, adding that police recovered the body and sent it to Coxs Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
