The hearing of a petition filed by the state seeking a stay on the High Court judgment that termed canceling the freedom fighter quota in first and second-class government jobs as illegal has been adjourned.

The court ordered 'not today' following a time petition from the writ petitioner.

The Appellate bench led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed this order. As a result,  the Appellate Division upheld the High Court verdict for now.
Besides, the top court has asked the state to file a regular leave to appeal after receiving the full verdict.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin represented the state in the court, while senior lawyer Motahar Hossain Saju moved for the writ.

Earlier on 5 June, the High Court ruled that the notification issued on 4 October 2018, cancelling the freedom fighter quota in first and second-class government jobs is illegal.

As a result, the 30 per cent quota for freedom fighters in government jobs (grades 9 to 13) will remain in place.
