Five youths were killed and two others injured when a private car lost control and collided with a tree in Pabna's Ishwardi upazila on Thursday night.
The accident happened around 9:30 pm on the Ishwardi-Pabna highway in front Pabna Sugar Mill at Kalikapur.
The dead were Jihad Hossain, 25, Bijoy Hossain, 25, Siam Hossain, 23, of Kalikapur village in Ishwardi, Shishir Islam, 22, and Shawon Hossain, 24, of Bharaimari village.
Pakshi Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Belal Uddin Jahangir said a private car was going towards Pabna from Ishwardi at a reckless speed at night. On the way, the car lost control and collided with a tree in that area. Three died on the spot. Two seriously injured were rescued and taken to Pabna General Hospital where doctors declared them dead.
The police said that all the dead were friends.
