Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five people along with 170 stolen mobile phones from Gulistan area in the capital on Friday night.
The arrested men are Md Khokhon,45; Md Harun,40; Abdur Rahaman,22; Nehal Rahaman Shobuj, 30 and Kamal Hossain,28; said M.J. Sohel, assistant superintend of police and assistant director (Media) of RAB-10, reports BSS.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-10 conducted a drive in Gulistan Nagar Bhaban area under Shahabagh police station and arrested them at around 8:00 pm on Friday, he said.
During the operation, 163 stolen mobile phones and seven tablets were recovered from them and estimated market value of the seized mobile phones and tablets is around taka 3 lakh.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested persons confessed that they are active members of mobile smugglers and they have been buying stolen mobiles and tablets from thieves and selling in different areas of the country including capital's Gulistan, RAB said.
A case was filed against the arrested persons and they were handed over to the concerned police station, the RAB official said.
