A union parishad chairman was reportedly shot dead by his relatives in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj district on Sunday afternoon over school managing committee dispute.
Police have arrested three people for interrogation in this connection.
The deceased HM Suman Haldar, 45, son of Piar Hossain Halder, was chairman of Panchgaon union parishad.
According to the locals, an altercation took place among Suman, his uncle and cousins Nur Mohammad, Nur Ahmed Bhola, Deku Nur and Kawser centering the Panchgaon Al Haz Wahed Ali Dewan High School managing committee election.
At one stage, one of them shot Suman dead.
Locals rescued Suman and took him to the Tongibari Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Later, police arrested Nur Mohammad, son of Late Mukbul Halder, and his son Seku Nur and Kawser in connection with the incident, they added.
The locals informed the media that all of them, who are involved in the murder, are the followers of former union parishad chairman and school managing committee president Md Milenur Rahman Milon.
Mollah Shoyeb Ali, officer-in charge of Tongibari Police Sation, said the incident occurred in front of the Al Haj Wahed Ali Dewan High School at around 1pm.
The OC said police have arrested three accused in this connection and the body was sent to the Munshiganj Generalk Hospital for autopsy.
