The wives of two Saudi Arabia expatriates allegedly committed suicide in separate incidents in two districts - Lalmonirhat and Chandpur, in two days.
LALMONIRHAT: A young woman reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her room at in-laws house in Aditmari Upazila of the district on Saturday.
Deceased Akhi Moni, 17, was the wife of Saudi Arabia expatriate Shakil Mia.
Locals said Akhi Moni, daughter of Ainul Haque of Taluk Khutamara Batris Hazari area in Lalmonirhat Town, got married with Shakil Mia through a video call 10 months back. Since the marriage, Akhi had been staying at her fathers house and recently appeared for her SSC exams from Lalmonirhat Fazlul Karim Girls High School.
She had recently started living with her in-laws. On Friday night, after having dinner with the family, she went to bed in her room. On Saturday morning, her father-in-law found her hanging and brought her down to the floor.
She was then taken to Aditmari Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Meanwhile, Akhis father Ainul Haque claimed that his daughter had called him the night before complaining about mistreatment by her in-laws. She had asked him to take her home that night. He had promised to bring her back in the morning, but she passed away before he could do so. He believes that his daughter committed suicide due to the abuse she suffered, and demanded justice for her.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Aditmari Police Station (PS) Mahmud-un-Nabi said on information, police recovered the body and sent it to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Legal actions will be taken upon investigation, the OC added.
CHANDPUR: A housewife reportedly committed suicide in Faridganj Upazila of the district on Friday morning.
Deceased Sumaiya Akter Nishi, 22, was the wife of Saudi expatriate Mobarak of Narayanpur area under Ramganj Upazila in Laxmipur.
The deceaseds father Jamal Hossain said Nishi got married with Mobarak five months earlier. Her husband went abroad after four months of their marriage. Nishi returned home from in-laws house a few days back.
At around 10am on Friday, Nishi locked her inside a room of the house. Later on, the family members broke into the room at around 11:30am after getting no response from the inside, and found her hanging from the ceiling.
Faridganj PS OC Md Saidul Islam said on information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
An unnatural death case was filed with the PS and the legal actions will be taken in this regard, the OC added.
