A young man has been allegedly beaten to death by his rivals at Daulatpur upazila in Manikganj district over a previous dispute.
The incident happened in Koliabazar area in the upazila at around 7:30 pm on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Sohag alias Jhontu, 28, son of Abdul Khalek, a resident of Wail village in the upazila.
Locals said, Jhontu slapped accused Ahad alias Zahid around one month ago as Zahid along with another made bad comments to girls in front of Jhontu's house.
As sequel to that, a group of 10-12 people, led by Zahid, attacked and beat up Jhontu with stick indiscriminately in Koliabazar area, leaving him critically injured.
Locals rescued Jhontu and took him to a hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The autopsy of the body has been completed, said Sumon Aditto, officer in-charge of Daulatpur Police Station.
Efforts are ongoing to arrest the accused in this regard, the police official added.
