Youth drowns in Jamalpur flood water day before wedding

A young man drowned in flood water in Jamalpur's Melandah upazila on Tuesday the day before his wedding.

In the incident, the joy of the wedding home has turned into mourning.
The dead was Sohel Mia, 22, son of Shaukat Ali, of Baripara area under the upazila.

Fire service personnel recovered his body from Nailarghat area under ​​Nangla Union around 3:30 PM. Earlier, the young man went missing while taking bath with four friends around 1 pm.

According to locals and family, Sohel Mia's wedding day was scheduled on Wednesday (July 10). In the afternoon, he along with his four friends went to take bath in the flood water at Nailerghat. At one stage, Sohel drowned in the water. Meanwhile, his friends searched him but could not find.

Later, being informed, a diving team of fire service recovered the body around 3:30 pm.

Melandah Fire Station Officer Shahidul Islam confirmed the recovery of the body.

Melandah Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Raju Ahmed said the body has been handed over to the family after legal proceedings.
