Pitch of Kalapara road gets lifted after 10 days of construction

KALAPARA, PATUAKHALI, July 9: Pitch of a metalised road at Mahipur Union in Mahipour Upazila is getting lifted after 10 days of its construction.

The 3.3 kilometre road ranging from Mahipur Sagar Cinema Hall to Nizampur Kheyaghat has been unusable.

Low quality construction materials were used in the road construction. It was alleged by locals.

According to Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) office in the upazila, contracting firm  Shahidul Enterprise constructed  the road at Tk 1.33 crore.

Md Siddique Molla, a local resident, said, "The LGED engineer was managed to use substandard construction materials. The road is not helping locals but causing sufferings. We, the villagers, went to the office of Upazila Engineer Md Sadikur Rahman to complain directly. But he did not take any action. The road is in such a bad condition that after ten days of construction work, the pitch of the road is now getting lifted."

Upazila LGED Engineer Md Sadekur Rahman Sadiq was tried over  his mobile phone for several times for his comment, but he did not receive it.

Kalapara Upazila Chairman Abdul Motaleb Talukdar said, "Instructions have been given for new construction in a quick time."
