Accused who threatened to kill Barrister Sumon arrested: CTTC

A team of Counter Terrorism Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the accused who allegedly threatened to kill lawmaker Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Sumon.
 
Niyoti Roy, additional deputy commissioner of the (media department) DMP confirmed the matter in a brief message on Tuesday night. However, he didn disclose details about the arrest.

According to a police source, the accused was arrested from Sylhet on Tuesday. The identity of the person is not known yet.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Ahad said, "We did not arrest him. Sylhet police have arrested him. However, the matter is being investigated by DB."

Earlier, on June 29, lawmaker Barrister Sumon, who was elected from Habiganj-4 constituency as an independent candidate, received death threats and lodged a general diary at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital.

In the GD, the lawmaker mentioned, "On the night of June 27, while I was in Dhaka, around 2am, the responsible officials of Chunarughat Police Station called me on my government mobile and informed me on WhatsApp that, You have received a death threat from an unknown powerful group that had taken a team of 4-5 people to the field three days ago. Do not go out at night and be cautious."

 He also said in the GD, "When I wanted to know the identity of the anonymous individuals from the OC, he denied knowing the identity of that person and advised me to be cautious. After knowing this, I am experiencing insecurity."     —UNB
