Two people including a woman were murdered in separate incidents in two districts - Munshiganj and Barishal, on Tuesday.

MUNSHIGANJ: A battery-run auto-rickshaw driver was murdered by snatchers in Sadar Upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The incident took place in Bojrajagini area of the upazila at around 9:30 pm.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Anik, 25, son of Mohammad Selim Mia, a resident of Mireshwarai area under Panchasar Union in the upazila.

Local sources said a group of snatchers stabbed Anik in Bojrajagini area on the Atpara road at around 9:30 pm, and fled away after snatching his auto-rickshaw, leaving him critically injured.

Locals then rescued him and took to Munshiganj General Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared Anik dead.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to the hospital morgue for an autopsy.

However, the law enforcers arrested a man, named Yusuf Ali, 35, in connection with the incident.

Hatimara Police Outpost In-Charge Niru Mia confirmed the matter.

BARISHAL: A woman was allegedly murdered by her husband over extramarital affair and dowry in Agailjhara Upazila of the district early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Ribika Bala, 35, wife of Sanjit Bala, a resident of Rahutpara Village under the upazila. She was the mother of two sons and daughter of Upendra Nath Baroi of Nobogram area under Dasar Upazila in Madaripur.

The deceaseds elder brother Subir Baroi said Ribika Bala got married with Sanjit Bala, son of Gouranga Bala of Rahutpara Village under Agailjhara Upazila. Sanjit had an extramarital affair with a woman for long. Besides this, he also used to torture Ribika over dowry. Following this, the two were locked into an altercation on Monday night.

Subir Baroi alleged that at one stage of the altercation, Sanjit might have killed Ribika, and then, hanged her body from a branch of a tree near the house to cover up the murder as suicide.

Later on, police have recovered her body at around 12 pm on Tuesday and sent it to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Officer-in-Charge of Agailjhara Police Station (PS) Md Alam Chand confirmed the incident, adding that an unnatural death case was filed with the PS primarily and the actual reason behind her death would be known after getting the autopsy report.
