Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a madrasah teacher on charges of raping a third-grade female student at Daudkandi upazila in
Cumilla on Thursday night.
The accused, Nasir Patwary from Khalisha village under Daudkandi Upazila of the district, was arrested during a raid in the Hazaribagh area of Dhaka, conducted by RAB-11 and RAB-10 units.
RAB-11 officials confirmed the information at its office in Cumilla's Shaktala on Friday.
Lieutenant Commander Mahmudul Hasan, company commander of RAB-11 CPC-2 (Cumilla), said that due to rain, most students were absent from the madrasah on the day of the incident. Nasir lived with his family in a house behind the madrasah. On July 4, Nasir’s family members were not at home and called the eight-year-old victim to his house under the pretext of helping with cleaning. Once the victim went inside, Nasir locked the door and
raped her.
During the assault, when the victim screamed, Nasir threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident. After returning home, the victim was visibly distressed and eventually disclosed the incident to her family, he said.
Being informed about the incident, the victim's mother filed a case with Daudkandi Model Police Station against Nasir.
Upon learning about the case, Nasir went into hiding in Dhaka. However, following the case, RAB utilized technology to locate and arrest Nasir from Dhaka, said the commander.
Later, he was handed over to Daudkandi Police Station, added the RAB official.
Confirming the matter, Daudkandi Model Police Station officer-in-charge Mozammel Haque said that the arrested would be presented in court on Saturday morning.
