Police recovered the body of a woman from a betel nut garden in Gangapur village under South Hamsadi union of Laxmipur Sadar upazila on Thursday night.

Deceased Minu Begum, 46, was wife of Momin Ullah and mother of two children. She lived at Botatoli area of Nandanpur village in the upazila.

According to the victim's sister Parvin Akter, Minu went to the orchard around 1pm on Thursday to collect betel nut husks for fuel. When she did not return home by the afternoon, family members began searching for her. Despite their efforts, they could not find her until after the Maghrib prayer.

Later, around 9pm locals spotted her beheaded body approximately 300 meters from their home in the garden.

Upon receiving the news, police recovered the body from the scene and sent to Laxmipur General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police reported that Minu's body bore multiple sharp weapon wounds on her neck and left wrist.

After inspecting the scene, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Hasan Mustafa Swapan said, "It is assumed that this is a case of murder. The woman was attacked multiple times with a sharp weapon on her neck and left wrist. A thorough investigation will be conducted to identify the perpetrators and legal actions will be taken in this regard."
