Child drowns in Chandpur

A two-year-old child drowned in a pond at Haziganj upazila in Chandpur district on Saturday morning.

The incident happened at Mohespur village under Bakila union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Niaz Ahmed, son of Zahir Ahmed, a resident of the area.

It was learnt that the Niaz was playing with other children in their yard. At that time, he suddenly went missing. Sensing his absence, family members searched for him and found his floating in a pond near their house.
Later, he was taken to Haziganj Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

On information, police recovered the body and handed it over to the deceased's family members as there were no allegation, said Md Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Haziganj Upazila Health Complex.
